With Fluorescent & Halogen lighting out of the picture, Bright Spark Electrical Services are endeavouring to help their customers with LED Lighting (Light Emmitting Diode to be more precise, each with its unique set of advantages and disadvantages:

Other issues to be aware of are:
NOT all led lights are dimmable, please check the information supplied, and also the boxes that you are purchasing individual lamps.
Some LED light fittings have integrated LED's built into them, when the LED's "die" a complete new light fitting is required. Nice ceiling or wall lights, and even exterior lights. when you have a matching pair or more, then unfortunately, to keep the design / flow around the room /outside, unfortunately you may have to purchase more light fittings again.
Some LED down lights have integrated LED's built into them also, when the LED's "die" a complete new light fitting is required. Thankfully although the manufacturers may change the design, we can often get the same model / very similar style to help you, often we move a "good" LED Down light from an area where a minor design change cannot be seen, over to the "Dead" light fittings, replacing with a new down light.
Cheap is not often the best, when purchasing replacement LED Lamps (Light Bulbs), just because they are cheap, it does not give you a long life span or a quality light bulb.
With down lights, if you swap out a Halogen lamp, to an LED lamp. It should work, however there with the 12v Lamps which have 2x thin prongs, these have transformers hidden up behind the down light in the ceiling, the lamps sometimes pack up, and so do the transformers. At Bright Spark we advise that there is a cost saving on these to have your down lights changed over with a 240V lamp, and new light fitting, with the added benifit, there is no future removing the light fitting from the ceiling with potential damage to around the hole, your down lights are all Clean, shiney and new. Just when the lamp dies, the lamp is replaced quite simply by even a novice with a new Lamp.
The cost of replacing Transformers, and 12v lamps along with new lamp holders which need replacing due to the lamp holders deterioating due to the heat from the old halogen lamps, changing to the 240V GU10 system far out weighs the cost of having the new ones.

Finally..... shoud you have dimmer switches for your lighting, a lot of the existing dimmer switches dont work with the LED lamps, so either a new switch plate, or a replacement dimmer module is required in your dimmer switch plate.
