Come to Life!
A RCD, or residual current device, is a life-saving device which is designed to prevent you from getting a fatal electric shock if you touch something live, such as a bare wire. It can also provide some protection against electrical fires. RCDs offer a level of personal protection that ordinary fuses and circuit-breakers cannot provide.

This is the type of device that you can plug in for your lawnmower, it monitors the current flowing in to a circuit and ensures almost the same flows back to neutral. If a difference is detected ie. you receive a shock (some current passes through you to Earth) the device turns off the circuit or circuits it protects.
When specified and installed correctly, this device can save your life. It can be found as a plug in unit or as part of your consumer unit, most installations should now have one or more of these fitted in the consumer unit.
The Institution of Engineering and Technology who are the governing body who are responsible for the Electrical Regulations we have to adhere to BS7671, they have written an article explaining the complexities of RCD's, including how they work, pictures, and some complex Electrical information.
Consumer unit upgrades should always be carried out by a qualified and registered electrician. Never compromise your safety by attempting to do it yourself.
Additionally, the installation of a consumer unit must be carried out in accordance with the Part P Building regulations. Your electrician must give you a Part P Certificate that confirms that the consumer unit has been installed in accordance with these recommendations

I would highly recommend Karen and her team for any electrical jobs you have. From the moment I first emailed my enquiry the service was super quick (I appreciate this depends on their other jobs at the time). We received a quote that was clear with the works to be done and price was reasonable. On the day the electrician (Joe I believe) turned up on time, did a fab job and even tidied up after himself. The old ceiling lights we had were a little tricky to get off and pulled some of the plaster off too, but he filled it in and made it as good as new.Great job from beginning to end. Thank you Bright Spark
Terry did a nice job. More importantly my wife said, “He can come here any time.” Praise indeed!
Prompt courteous service, with very competitive rates. I have no reservations to recommend this Company.
We found the service to be friendly and pro-active. We had an appointment quickly and the engineer was able to find the issue, which was not straightforward, within an hour and rewire the effected ceiling lamp and resolve the issue completely within 2 hours. Very methodical and accurate working - most appreciated!
I had no electricity and phoned up in very late evening. Karen phoned me back despite it being late evening and sorted out my problem on the phone . Great service, extremely helpful and quick response and I didn’t even have to pay for a visit. Thoroughly recommend this company and will definitely use them again.
