Come to Life!

All the switches on my fuse board are all up but I don't have any electricity still !

Now What Do I Do?

At first glance when you look at your fuse board/consumer unit all the switches look UP across the whole run.

However there are a couple of manufacturers who have RCD trip switches which drop down , and cut power to your circuits.

But they look up in the normal position? !!!  As experienced trained electricians we can quite often spot this straightaway because of the the experience of various manufacturers consumer units.

The two manufacturers distribution boards which often look as though all the circuits are switched on, but the circuits are out, are electrical distribution boards made by MK, Memera 2000 (MEM), look for the name on the casing, or across the circuit breakers

Take a look at the photographs below, we have circled the RCD Big Switch, which will have tripped, and turned the power off.

The trick here is to push the big black button down, until it clicks, and then push it back up to the top and it should click into position.

The "Push to Test" button will basically trip this switch down fractionally again.

If you find that having pushed the switch back up it still trips down, please read our article

Should the problem persist, then you should call out a Qualified Registered Electrician.

Continual resetting over several minutes can have an adverse effect with your RCD, and the RCD will not be effective, and may need a replacement.

Phil, from Bright Sparks arrived promptly, was really polite, cracked on with his job and gave us a really good brief on what he'd done and why it was needed which was then followed up with a thorough report. Bright Sparks have been absolutely superb and not only are they saved in my phone but also I'd recommend them to friends and family. Thanks guys. P.s. you were up front and transparent about costs too.
